Sixteen Degrees: Finding the Gateway

Today, August 8th (8/8), we have an interesting aspect pattern forming in the sky that involves two major outer planets, Uranus and Saturn, plus Chiron, together with Sun, Mercury and Moon, all at the same degree. These planets occupy different signs so that various aspects are formed, and we might surmise that these archetypal energies are definitely trying to tell us something. The Sun and Mercury in conjunction, in the sign of Leo, exactly trine Uranus in Aries and square Saturn in Scorpio. All these planets also aspect Chiron, the Wounded Healer, in the sign of Pisces. This multifaceted alignment is touched off by the Moon, arriving at the 17th degree of Capricorn between 9:30 and 10:00 AM PDT, three hours later on the East coast and later still in Europe. These planets, all at 16 - plus degrees of their respective signs, bring - numerologically speaking - the number '16,' or 8 + 8, into prominence as well, and anyone with a planet or planets occupying the 16th to the18th degree of any sign in their birth chart will be poignantly affected. We therefore have, as we have been dealing with for these last several weeks now, an extra-heavy momentary dose of the push-pull represented by this close aspect between Uranus and Saturn.
Uranus and Saturn are antithetical energies; Uranus is all about getting out from under all restraints, what astrologer Jeffery Wolf Green referred to as 'freedom from the known.' Uranus wants to fly, and to give us glimpses of the multi-dimensional world beyond our senses, bringing unexpected enlightenment. Saturn, on the other hand, is all about the here-and-now and the practicalities that restrict and inform each passing moment, symbolizing restraint itself.
In uneasy aspect with each other, and triggered by the Sun, Moon and Mercury, these planets are enforcing a difficult truce in which we must walk the line of compromise, between either extreme. If we cannot find that sweet spot for ourselves, then we will wobble back and forth endlessly between impulsive action that takes us as far away as humanly possible from real-world concerns, and the snap of the rubber band that takes us back, once more, to the plain old sensation of the factual situation that we find ourselves in. The incipient pain of this contrast is perhaps represented by the Chiron element in the midst of all this, reminding us of our all-too-human wounds that equally we must carry. There is a unique opportunity in this small window of time to glimpse something of our individual and collective wounding in a way that allows us to slip through a metaphoric gateway. This gateway may be narrow, and perhaps difficult access, yet on the other side is the space to truly spread our wings. Inventiveness is a keyword here; thinking in new ways, or somehow suddenly stumbling into a unique perspective that while it seems out of left field, can represent a potent and appropriate access point to shedding old layers and stepping it up into a new paradigm.
