A Quarter Moon time of Reflection

Thursday's Last Quarter Moon is an unusually strong one, accompanied as it is by connections to all three outer planets as well as Chiron, representing the archetype of the Wounded Healer. This week's lunation also features a close forming square between Venus and Mars, symbolizing creative conflict between female and male, also relationship versus individuality. The major tensions of this configuration imply that interpersonal conflict could come up for healing or at least for a better attempt at resolution.

The Sun and Moon, square to each other in the cardinal signs of Libra and Cancer, stand on the opposite side of the Zodiac from Uranus and Pluto, as these two powerhouse planets draw ever closer to their next exact hit at the end of the following month. In addition to the Uranus and Pluto emphasis, Neptune in Pisces is accentuated by a sesquiquadrate from Jupiter plus the close trine from the Cancer Moon, while the Sun makes an inconjunct and Mercury is parallel. This sensitive and idealistic planetary archetype, given to overly imaginative or perhaps self-deceptive as well as escapist tendencies, shows us how far we as a society have come from resting content in the numinous reality of faith in the surrounding cosmos to see us through; a faith that sometimes manages to be restored to us if we are willing. Neptune in its essence represents the otherworldly spiritual dimension above and beyond the physical plane, which is best represented by art forms such as poetry, music, film and dance, so that these soothing modes of relating to the world around us might come to the fore as well over these final September days.

As we struggle to recognize what is truly happening both outside of and also within ourselves, we attempt to comprehend our deeper motivations. Understanding precedes meaningful action. With the grace of the cosmos to guide us, this could take the form of vitally important course corrections as we head into the intense configurations of the fall.
