This is an interesting month for Mercury, because it moves into Aquarius on January 4th, and will remain in this Air sign, through its subsequent retrograde period, until mid march. Mercury represents the mind, and is a quick-moving planet. With Mercury in Aquarius everyone's style of communication becomes rather unconventional. Visionary and brilliant ideas bubble over. Thanks to an inventive mindset, conversations become more far out and debates are favored over chattiness. Powers of observation and detachment are greater now.
There are several noteworthy aspects of Mercury?s movement in the weeks ahead:
Mercury conjunct Venus:
Moving nearly neck and neck with Venus through the zodiac, Mercury remains within 2 degrees from the planet of love and beauty through the first part of January, right up to the 17th. This is unusual because normally Mercury would zip right by Venus, but in this case, it is slowing to make its retrograde journey, so the two are moving at a similar pace, keeping them side by side for much longer than usual. This places an unusual emphasis on examining and re-inventing approaches to communication, relating, and love. There could be a bit of detachment that occurs, as an inclination for more of a mental than heartfelt approach is present. Yet there can be benefit in gaining distance from your emotions, heightened possibility for new insights, finding a fresh approach, and breakthrough in effective communication. You might also find yourself able to break away from running old patterns, finding new ways to connect.
Mercury Retrograde:
It is perhaps quite auspicious that Venus and Mercury buddy up before January 21st when Mercury stations retrograde in the eighteenth degree of Aquarius, thereby immersing us in communication and connection before the retrograde period hits and communications become more challenging. After the 21st it is not a good time to start new projects, or launch anything of a novel forward direction. Instead this is a time for inward contemplation and anything that begins with a ?re.? Reorganize, recalibrate, research, and (perhaps most of all) RELAX! Mercury will remain in retrograde through February 11th, but remains shaky, only escaping its ?retrograde shadow? on March 3rd.
