The New Year holds many blessings for you, Cancer, not the least of which is a better handle on significant partnerships in your life. You are doing the relationship dance this month with many variations, all of them novel and some of them profound, and the shifts come over you quite suddenly. You might find that old wounds are coming up for understanding, acceptance and imaginative healing. The flavor of your experience shifts markedly as the days unfold. By month's end you might even believe that the real heart of the story -- and the most radical sense of newness – lies within your own soul, having profited mightily from the experience of the last thirty days.

As the month begins, you are basking in cosmic intelligence. New perspectives that have been dawning upon you slowly over the past few months have suddenly become more present to your conscious awareness with the advent of this new year and new phase. These might seem to arrive out of nowhere, coming as they do from your intuitive connection to the universe at large, and they represent the presence of the creative void, the uncarved block in Zen parlance, the "nowhere" that is suddenly "now here." These intimations of a reality beyond the tangible world of the five sense tune you in so that you are more aware of others in your life as well. Partners of all kinds are very valuable to you now, both as sources of novel perspectives and as outriders to your own journey into greater balance and wholeness. The Solar Eclipse and New Moon of Tuesday, January 4th, is the crux of this important early part of the month for you, and epitomizes all these factors. There is a compassionate realization that has been coming over you, albeit gradually, that we are all connected. Therefore others begin to take on even greater consideration, when seen as parts of your own body, mind and experience. This includes intimate relationships and even fantasies. You have a tendency now to over-idealize intimate partners and to create illusions concerning either their importance in your life or the difficulties that they present to your normal functioning. The antidote is to remain firmly grounded in your own psyche, but that too can be overdone, as you have been discovering. The First Quarter Moon of Wednesday, January 12th, puts a few bumps into the road of your progress. This is a time of tension, as normally it is, and of a feisty and combative energy that might temporally derail peaceful coexistence. You are still getting somewhere even through these relative setbacks, since even what you find not to work is valuable information. The weekend that follows, on the 15th and the 16th, presents you with additional information of the intuitive variety, while that Monday, January 17th, is a particularly difficult time when curve balls abound and when you are forced to readjust your thinking on key relationship issues. Then the Full Moon of Wednesday, January 19th presents you with a state of relative calm, enabling you perhaps to sort things out a bit. You have come through a time of review and reevaluation of your relationship dynamic and your service connection to others, and you are entering a new and hopefully more balanced phase. This is because the period of Mercury retrograde is over, including its emergence from the shadow period when it makes up for the zodiacal longitude lost in its backward motion. The remainder of the month will be spent in working out and affirming the new direction that your life has taken over its first few climactic weeks.
