March Horoscopes

by Henry Seltzer
[P]

The Astrology of March is wild and woolly, with the Pisces New Moon at the end of the first week of the month conjuncting Uranus, just as Mercury regains its lost Zodiacal ground from the recent retrograde and conjuncts both Venus and Neptune in Aquarius. Venus, Mercury and Neptune in triple conjunction reminds us that things are not always what they seem, and that the energy of the unseen has an important place in our lives. At the time of this exciting and powerful configuration we may become more conscious of the role that the numinous and otherworldly plays in enhancing our experience. Jupiter also connects with this New Moon, giving it even more pizzazz, while Mars simultaneously aspects Chiron and opposes Pluto, all taking place on Friday the 7th. In order to heal outmoded patterns of behavior that no longer serve us, it sometimes takes a kick in the pants, or in the psyche, to get us moving in the right direction and this New Moon provides one. As sudden epiphany comes over us, we find new meaning in old illusions and explore more fully our relationship desires and our sexual or aggressive urges with the optimistic goal of transcending them.

Neptune and Uranus have been in mutual reception for many months now, and this fertile combination is highlighted in the present configuration. We can more easily conceive of new ideas at this New Moon time that bring the fundamentally spiritual basis of our existence closer to our consciousness, with also however the possibility of slipping into psychic dream states that, rather than informing our more complete understanding of the mundane world, take us further away. It may seem to our ordinary and escape-oriented awareness that the world is materially centered only, and descending into chaos at that, but the truth is far more subtle and more hopeful. We erase the burden of doom and gloom by acknowledging the paradoxical and multi-dimensional nature of existence, as evidenced by all our experiences when we take a good look around without letting our culturally derived blinders get in the way of our naked perception.

The revolutionary and transformative energy of Pluto is also available to us now, and helps by razing old and outworn psychic and societal structures that are ready to be discarded. Just as in the charismatic sixties, when Pluto and Uranus collided with Saturn opposed, we are entering now upon another such time, with Pluto in Saturn's sign of Capricorn and Uranus coming into closer and closer square with Pluto over the next four years. Following the Spring Equinox by a day and a half, the Aries-Libra Full Moon of March 21st forms a T-Square with Pluto and reminds us of the possibility, even the necessity, of massive transformation in our lives. Perhaps Bob Dylan – poet laureate of that earlier revolutionary era – put it best when he said that "everybody not busy being born is busy dying."

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon degree in Pisces is instructive: "A gigantic tent," symbolizing the incredible and multifaceted variety of experience that falls into our ken at this climactic time in the turning of the ages. At the very same time that we fully embody concrete reality, as indeed we must if we are to survive, we must also finally begin again to acknowledge our essential nature as spirits moving in the material world, ethereal and not fully at home here. There is nothing wrong with the paradox implicit in this idea, only with the limits of our vision to see our world entire and whole. We (all) win when we embrace the paradox and see the wonder, along with the challenges, of our current situation.

Transits to the U.S. Chart USA

Last month I mentioned that Pluto and Neptune figured prominently in the astrology of U.S. chart transits, aspecting U.S Neptune and Mercury, and the same is true for the current month of March. Pluto is about massive change, as we have already seen, while Neptune can refer to idealism and potential deception or illusion, as well as the high-minded approach. In all this we can see the results of the recent Democratic campaign, where both idealism and confusion are playing themselves out on the national stage. Certainly the Democratic front-runner, Barack Obama, has made change his mantra, and the February results have confirmed this as a winning strategy for right now, with an electorate that is hungry for meaningful change in Washington.

In the current month, the New Moon conjuncting Uranus also trines the U.S. Sun, indicating that there are new ideas in the offing, that a breath of fresh air is blowing through, and blowing the mind, of the country. This might predict another strong showing for Obama in the important March 4th primAries that just precede it. Also at the time of the New Moon, a Yod from U.S. Neptune and U.S. Mercury forms to transiting Neptune and Venus, implying that adjustment is called for in the nation's thought process, and implying once again, as did the transits for February, that both high idealism and potential confusion are strongly in the mix of energies swirling around the heads of politicians and commentators right now, both as to eventual outcomes of the nomination and for the policies of the country as a whole.
