The Astrology of September features Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, with Neptune remaining in opposition to Saturn for at least the first half of the month, and this time with powerfully transformative Pluto as a definite factor. We may be tempted toward despair by our obvious deficits, but the key to spiritual metamorphosis is in our hands. It is up to us, to each of us, as it always has been, one of the many paradoxes of our earthly condition. Like a living hologram, each one of us individually makes the whole of creation sing. We only seem to be helpless by a negative trick of the imagination; in reality we are powerful beyond measure.

The transformative effects of Pluto are prominent during the two eclipses of September. The first, a Lunar Eclipse taking place on September 7th, conjuncts and opposes Uranus while it squares a stationary and therefore more pronounced Pluto. Pluto stations on the 4th, squaring the transiting Nodal Axis, Mercury and Mars as it does so. The SaturnNeptune opposition is also highlighted. With trickster Uranus also powerfully constellated at this time, we might expect almost anything, with the emphasis on cosmic epiphany and the conflict of the ideal versus the real. We can passively succumb to despair or actively seek a new synthesis. Since Pluto is involved our choices are likely to be starkly evident.

The Solar Eclipse and New Moon taking place in the last degree of Virgo on the same day as the Fall Equinox, the 22nd, again squares Pluto as Uranus aspects a Mars-Mercury conjunction in Libra. Thus, these two extremely strong lunations are similar in their symbolism, sparking the idea of unexpected enlightenment and the urge to make drastic changes. This crisis period of time calls out for a radical reassessment of our situation, with the pressure in the cooker mounting each day. Do we have the courage to stand up for what we believe at core, or are we doomed to be frustrated in our attempts at transcendence, to dance forever to the beat of the consensus? Only time will tell. But since Pluto, the force for change that sweeps all before it, is emphasized in these lunations, and still linked to Neptune by parallel declination, we are being asked to truly step up to the plate and swing away, to be everything that we can be, to make that motion which in an instant can change the world around us. The times call for nothing less.

Transits to the U.S. Chart

USA Chart

This month sees the anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, and it might be useful to take a look at where the country is at, regarding the terrorism threat and the Bush White House. September is also the first month of a Fall period leading up to important mid-term elections that may well be seen as a referendum on where the nation is headed. And not coincidentally, since Saturn is square to Jupiter in the sky at this time, the two planets that mark social periods, some sort of assessment is indicated on the events that have transpired on the political scene since their conjunction in 2000.

Of course the situation is eroding. The invasion of Iraq on a pretext has proven to be a vast and costly mistake, as well as immoral and in violation of international law, as most would now agree, around the world and even in this country. The transits to the U.S. chart on this fifth anniversary of the attacks reflect the tumultuous state of the current situation (see chart USA 911).

For one thing, as Pluto stations on September 4th, just one week prior to the 9-11 date, it aspects U.S. Mercury almost exactly while it sextiles U.S. Moon, representing the public. This implies further transformation for the information services of this country, and the public's perception of them. This country's media have unfortunately done a poor job of keeping people informed over the past few years, and it starting to catch up with them. Pluto also triggers the natal MarsNeptune square in the U.S. chart, symbolizing a further transformation of the relationship between deception and the military, already implicated in propaganda scandals in recent weeks and in keeping mum about misconduct as an occupying army, which is of course nothing new. The public perception regarding these deficits is starting to change in a big way however, which is likely to become more pronounced over the next few years. The slogan of "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more" is beginning to take hold everywhere in this country, as indicated by the truly Nixonian approval rating of this administration.

Also on that day, transiting Mars crosses the U.S. Midheaven and transiting Saturn squares U.S. Chiron, both indicators of potentially tragic impending events concerning the U.S. military.

Finally, the Lunar Eclipse of September 7th takes place just days before the 9-11 anniversary, involving a grand trine between transiting Jupiter, transiting Uranus conjunct the eclipse Moon, and U.S. Sun, indicating that this period will indeed be an important and potentially enlightened period of time for all of us, with the potential for sudden new information and changes of direction. May it finally be so.

Pluto's status as a "dwarf planet" and the significance for Astrology

Sometimes big presents come in little boxes. The classification of solar system objects according to their astronomical characteristics plays a tangential role in the significance of these objects for astrologers. The gap is widening. Certainly when Uranus was discovered in the 18th Century, its status as a "planet" and its significance astrologically were right in line with each other, although astrologer Richard Tarnas has suggested that a more appropriate mythological archetype would be Prometheus. Same with Neptune, discovered in the 19th Century, whose astrological symbolism reflects the watery depths symbolized by the ancient god of the oceans. Now we come to the 20th Century. When Pluto was added to the pantheon of planets in 1941, the astrological symbolism again reflected the mythological origin of his name. The asteroids have also been accorded astrological meaning in modern times that seems quite appropriate, especially the four major asteroids, Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta. Although no one would call them planets, they are accorded the status of "minor planets" which does roughly equate with their astrological significance. Then Chiron was discovered in 1977, and while not regarded as a planet, more of a wandering comet or "planetoid," actually a fallen Kuiper Belt object with a solar system orbit, it has certainly proven to be quite significant in working with charts. Pluto and Chiron are in fact more similar than different in the way they work astrologically. At this point it becomes evident that astronomical classification and astrological significance do not necessarily line up with each other. So when Pluto is downgraded to the status of "dwarf planet" it affects the way astrologers work with his energy – not at all.

Current Configurations

Pluto stations direct on September 4th (Pluto SD), square to Mars. This powerful station of Pluto implies that underground emotions may erupt to the surface in one way or another, and that the areas of life ruled by Pluto are emphasized in this 7 day period leading up to the Full Moon, including life transformation and drastic changes of all kinds, seeing more deeply, and darkly, into other's motivations as well as our own, and most importantly razing existing structures to make way for new growth.

The Lunar Eclipse Full Moon taking place on Thursday, September 7th (Full Moon Chart), squares Pluto, while it conjuncts and opposes Uranus, bringing out the latent connection between these two planets, both in mutable signs. Saturn is also still within orb of opposing Neptune at this time. We are asked to find our balance amidst the breakthrough information and swirling ideas that are likely to come up for us during this climactic period. The Mercury/Mars midpoint also conjunct the transiting South Node almost exactly right now, in square to a recently stationing Pluto, and there will be implications for our communications with others and our will to survive and to make our mark on the world in spite of everything, a process that builds from the very beginning of the month. We are being truly asked to step up to being all that we can be, or face the consequences of our relative inaction. If, as the poet says, there is a tide in the affairs of persons then this is it.

The Last Quarter Moon takes place on Thursday (Last Quarter Moon Chart), September 14th at 21 plus degrees, triggering all these outer planet configurations, including especially Pluto, which it opposes. As this Last Quarter Moon also conjuncts U.S. Mars – see above for more transits to the U.S. chart – there are also likely to be further implications for the military in this country and its perceived role in the world for this entire two-week period that includes the fifth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks.

This Last Quarter Moon period of time is traditionally considered a "crisis of consciousness" when we must face up to what works and what doesn't seem to get it regarding our process of discovery and growth. With Pluto so closely involved in this month's lunations and particularly in this one, we are being asked to look deeply into our process of personal evolution and honestly assess the choices we have made and continue to make for ourselves.

This New Moon and Solar Eclipse takes place in the final degree of Virgo (New Moon Chart). The eclipse degree was triggered by Mars at the time of the Lunar Eclipse earlier in the month, making these two eclipses especially powerful and connected to each other. The New Moon also aspects Neptune and Saturn and the T-square that they make with Jupiter at this time, so represents another powerful lunation. The 29th degree is considered to be a "last chance" degree – a time when we must finally get it right or face the consequences. In Virgo, this degree could easily refer to the issue of the environment, so prevalent these days with the recent global warming debate heating up (as it were) as fresh disasters loom. The generation with Pluto in Virgo, born in the years from 1957 to 1971, are only just now beginning to come into power, and it likely that they will take a different attitude, an attitude that we already see emerging in our present times.

The Sabian Symbol for this degree, "A false call unheard in attention to immediate service," is a trifle mysterious, but I take it to mean "Don't allow yourself to be distracted." Lynda Hill summarizes the symbol as "there is a need to pay complete attention to the job at hand." Of course these days, we have plenty of distractions to contend with, and an increasingly important job at hand to deal with as well.

It also pertains to our political situation. Marc Edmond Jones puts his description of the last degree of Virgo thusly: "When positive, exceptionally gratifying self-fulfillment through the development of genuine integrity; and when negative, consistently witless indiscretion."

Taking place on Saturday, September 30th, this is a LibraCapricorn First Quarter Moon (First Quarter Moon Chart), the Sun having entered Libra one week past, at the time of the Fall Equinox of late Friday evening, the same day as the Solar Eclipse New Moon in late Virgo as described above. Venus also has just crossed into Libra along with Mars, and the Sun occupies the Venus/Mars midpoint, symbolizing right relationship between male and female, and balancing the masculine and feminine part of our own nature, a theme that will be prominent throughout October.

The First Quarter Moon is traditionally regarded as a "crisis in action," meaning a time when the ideas that were seeded at the beginning of the cycle in the previous New Moon reach their make or break moment. Looking to the symbolism of this Solar Eclipse, this is therefore one time when we must face the consequences of our actions or our relative inaction. That question is also linked at this time to the conflict between the ideal and the practical summed up by Saturn versus Neptune, a contrast that remains in the background all fall and winter, to re-emerge as a close opposition aspect next February, and then again in June. It is a question that we may ask about ourselves in general, and on all levels. Do we have the staying power of our positive vision for the future, or must we give in to whatever forces oppose our initial impulse? Only time will tell.

Aries Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Cardinal Fire. Your ruling planet is Mars.

Your sincerity is on the line this month, Aries. It's all about owning your power and finding your purpose, a sense of higher intention for your life that may turn out to be very different than what you have been thinking and planning. Compassion is involved, and a sense of unity with all existence, and the joy of taking part in service to that immensity. You may feel stuck right now in solitary isolation and narrow pride of accomplishment, but it is all an illusion, a prelude to a greater expansion. Dare to act feely and the universe will rise up to embrace you, only you have to be willing to make the first move.

As the month begins, you are taking a closer look behind the scenes of your daily activity than you normally are willing to do. You are feeling the link between taking on a service role in your connection with others and establishing true partnership as a basis for engaged interaction. A delicate balance always exists between making choices strictly from the standpoint of your own ego requirements and from the needs of others, and you are more aware than formerly of that interplay. There is a way of looking at things where you are more truly yourself the more you share yourself and find your own highest intention in the actions that you take, and you're coming closer to taking that stand in the first few days of September. The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse that takes place on Thursday the 7th highlights these issues and brings a moment of cosmic epiphany to your process of greater understanding. You are tuned to subtle messages from a distant source right now, that may nonetheless tell you true. At issue is how hard and fast you come on and how fuzzy the eventual outcome. You are seeking a balance. It is a time for unity, and a time for fully participatory partnership with others around you, although how you come to that is the real story. The Last Quarter Moon that comes along on Thursday, September 14th, may present you with a few curve balls, but nothing that you can't handle. You are going through some degree of transformation at this time and are in the process of deciding which changes you are actually able to incorporate into your life and which you need to let go. The New Moon and Solar Eclipse of the following week, taking place on the 22nd, brings you into direct relationship with the energy of your own psyche as projected onto significant partners in your life. You are in an essentially fortunate space right now with respect to partnership concerns, and with many changes possible in the way that you see your world, moving forward. And seeing makes all the difference.

Taurus Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Fixed Earth. Your ruling planet is Venus.

You are looping your way to a different kind of greatness this month, Taurus. Success is coming your way all right, only not quite the ideal of achievement that you had in mind. You are putting your best foot forward these days and exploring your creativity, which may take you into some unexpected directions, especially at the time of the Lunar Eclipse on the 7th of the month. The inspiration that accompanies your wild ramblings is transformative; one thing you can be sure of, you won't be the same person as when you started.

As the month begins, you find yourself in transition, coming into yourself in a new way after some serious soul-searching. Intimate partners in your life occupy your attention as you struggle to define a true sense of your interaction with them that takes your own center-stage presence into the picture but allows the concerns of others to have their voice as well. You are in possession of an optimistic attitude right now toward the helpfulness of other people in your life. Expecting to get the most out of your partnership connection means that you oftentimes do. The Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse of Thursday, September 7th, raises these and similar feelings to the forefront of your awareness, as a new vision suddenly snaps into place for yourself moving forward. Your future is singing to you right now, and it's a tune that seems like a new one that you only just heard while at the same time being totally familiar. You are in a good place to make your move, since while a visionary attitude leads you onward, your feet are firmly grounded in practicality. The creative tension of this stance does have its difficult moments however, perhaps particularly at the time of the Last Quarter Moon of September 14th, when the potential for risk looms large, at least in your mind, but when the evolutionary pressure is also strong to move on with your life. The New Moon that comes along a week later is another eclipse, an action-oriented one that may find you on the brink of important transformation. It is wonderful right now to just let yourself slide over the lip of the waterfall without regrets. You'll probably go anyway and just think of all the needless worry that you will have saved yourself.

Gemini Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Mutable Air. Your ruling planet is Mercury.

You are tuning in to core values and home concerns this month, Gemini, taking a trip to the inner dimensions of your experience. There is a stability in getting centered all right, but you may encounter there a touch of wildness also as you begin to pick up on a darker and more mysterious side of what you have to offer. New information may be surprising and trail blazing, leaving its residue across the tangled canyons of your mind. Nothing is exactly as it seems, not yourself, not your partnership dynamic with others, not even what you used to think you could totally count on.

As the month begins, you are very invested on your home front, connecting to the roots of your being, perhaps metaphorically tuning into your tribal history, or literally in the sense of rebuilding and rearranging your dwelling space. There is a dark side to your preoccupation at this time however, as you feel the desire to look under the covers of home and family issues, and other relationship concerns as well, to see what lies beneath the surface layers. The Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse of Thursday, September 7th, puts you in touch with your public persona, which depends on your private attitude but does not coincide with it, and where there is considerable variability these days. You may find that career goals shift miraculously at this time, or that sudden new ideas take a front seat in your awareness while the best laid plans of previous months slide to the back burner. Communicating this truth to others around you becomes both extremely important and also quite difficult to achieve. There's a strong feeling that you've got to get it right, and yet you've had very little practice with these more subtle thought forms. There is an ideal belief system that you would like to adhere to but that also may seem slippery and hard to grasp. You are fully invested in making your mark on the world in a new way that depends more on your inner soundness than on any external validation and you keenly feel the conflict between the ideal and the real. The Last Quarter Moon of Thursday, September 14th, marks a turning point in attitude and a time when you feel impelled to do the decisive deed, although hardly knowing which action it would be best to take. A week later, on Friday, September 22nd, this rambling motion leads you the time of the New Moon, which is a Solar Eclipse in the last degree of your home and family sector, representing a jumping-off point into a new way of seeing your world and your role within it. You are in an essentially positive and powerful point in your process of evolutionary growth, and any move that you make is likely to pay off long-term, especially with regard to the deeper issue of where you are really heading with your life at this time, and ultimately why.

Cancer Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Cardinal Water. Your ruling planet is TheMoon.

You are in the process of re-discovering some lost and essential part of yourself this month, Cancer. Although you've been through the wringer lately, feeling undervalued and over-extended all at the same time, startlingly sudden perspective shifts coming your way could change everything in an instant. After a few weeks of exploring your communication style and how you put your best foot forward, you are coming home to your true nature as the Fall Equinox beckons. Embracing new concepts of service to those around you and to your own highest purpose for yourself leads you to a brave new world of your own manufacture.

As the month begins, you are feeling your way through a difficult passage of soul-searching and deep change, especially with regard to significant partnerships in your life. Toward the end of the first week of the month the Lunar Eclipse of the 7th in your higher mind sector spurs you into entering into your own stage of enlightened wisdom. Like the Hermit that lifts his lamp you can utilize this recently discovered white light illumination center to hold out as a beacon to others around you. You are approaching connection with others from an entirely spacious and spiritual place these days, although you may find yourself confused by the hard-and-fast reality that balances with this more esoteric consciousness springing from your interior dreams and speculations. This Full Moon prepares the way for a further exploration of interior realms, and offers you the chance to make contact in a new way with those in your circle that you can reach out to in spoken or written form. You are very curious regarding the world around you at this time, and are ready to see everything in a different light. The Last Quarter Moon that comes along a week later, on Thursday, September 14th, brings you to a mystical and perhaps difficult realization regarding your sense of oneness with the universe in general and with intimate partners in particular. This is a spicy time of great possibility and transformational pressure upon you to connect with even the hidden parts of your being. There is a degree of comfort associated with whatever acceptance you can bring to bear upon your situation. The New Moon Solar Eclipse of September 22nd is also a powerful time for you, when you are coming home to yourself in new way, seeing the place as if for the very first time. There is a higher purpose to your explorations at this time in taking you closer to a mystical essence of self that transcends surface realities and leads you closer to a dedicated discipleship in what you actually came here to accomplish in this lifetime, with no master for you to apprentice to but your own inner knowing.

Leo Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Fixed Fire. Your ruling planet is TheSun.

You are entering into a time of relative uncertainty, Leo. Especially around the time of the Lunar Eclipse on the 7th, you're a little like the builder who chose to make his dwelling on the shifting sand. Your sense of stability is both very real and also entirely illusory, if you can allow yourself to open to that degree of paradox. A trick of the mind keeps you anchored and safe. Then the picture changes in an instant and you're off and running for what may in fact prove to be an exciting and fulfilling voyage of discovery.

As the month begins, you may find yourself to be changeable and eccentric, with questions regarding your security in financial or material terms, and also in ways that transcend the physical and get at the true basis for your security in terms of your attitude and self-concept. You are also majorly dealing with issues of self and other at this time. Something has got to give, either your ideals regarding finding the perfect partner or your self-imposed sense of limitation that brings reality checking into the equation. The Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon of Thursday, September 7th is likely to exacerbate these issues and make you feel like making sudden moves of one kind or another. You are in an expansive and slightly insecure emotional space right now, preferring or at least choosing freedom of movement over any real stability. Your heart center is opening, but perhaps to the universe at large and the wonder of existence rather than to any real person. With the Last Quarter Moon of Thursday, September 14th, you find yourself in something of a dilemma, balancing issues of self and other and with the need to transform in the creative expression of your individual nature. This is a quandary, but one that has its ultimate solution in coming to a new awareness of priorities and where you need to be headed in order to find your greatest sense of reward. The Solar Eclipse New Moon of Friday, September 22nd, taking place in your resources sector has the effect of challenging you to greater clarity in these and other areas; of defining what is to you most important and communicating that truth to others around you. The surface merely glitters but it is underneath that you find the true gold of your situation.

Virgo Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Mutable Earth. Your ruling planet is Mercury.

This might turn out to be a difficult month for you, Virgo. You are definitely quite full of yourself these days, but that could also be a Good Thing, as you have the verve and the moxy you need to adjust to some novel realities. You are transforming at the core, changing from the inside out, so that in the end you will be barely recognizable. The way that you show up for others is also somewhat indefinable right now, as unexpected enlightenment comes your way from friends and valued partners. The river of your life is ever shifting, ever growing, never the same one as you stepped into even as recently as this morning.

As the month begins, you find yourself engaged in depth researches into the root causes of your security needs and perhaps into the barriers that prevent their finding better expression. You are in the midst of an exciting and soul-searching time right now, exciting because of the possibility for real change, and made more difficult to the extent that you let yourself be subjected to your quite normal resistance to profound movement in the underlying and more unconscious areas of your psyche. The Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse on the 7th is likely to unleash some of these concerns and may even mark a surprising turn-around of one kind or another. Helpful partners may also prove instrumental in creating new pathways or else may remind you of the difficulty of truly connecting deeply with another when such complexity lurks below the surface of each one of you. You are likely to be mentally exploring relationship itself and what that means for you, and what may be your partner's unique contribution to the world and to you also. It's a tricky thing to realize that on the one hand, all relationship with others is a projection of your own secret desires, while on the other hand a real person is out there who more or less matches your inner picture and that it's up to you to reconcile the discrepancies. The Last Quarter Moon comes along on Thursday, September 14th, and you might be facing up to some tough realizations. There are places that you just don't fit, and you are forced to cut bait and reevaluate or else pour it on and try for a Hail Mary touchdown. The New Moon that comes along a week later, in the last degree of your sign, represents a fresh start on finding yourself and facing your security needs, with fresh conundrums to confound you and perhaps to pleasantly surprise you. Enlightenment is available, but you must first fully connect with your own center. Bereft of that refuge you lose the game, but when you accept yourself more completely, warts and all, you win. In any case you are in the midst of a good learning experience which will help you to sort out what you really can take with you into your next cycle and what you must somehow bring yourself to let go of.

Libra Libra (September 23 - October 22)
Cardinal Air. Your ruling planet is Venus.

You have made your bed but you're not quite ready to lie down it, Libra, not yet. You seem to be a mystery to everyone around you right now, not least to yourself, as some baffling force pushes you on into unexplored territory, way beyond what you thought was all planned out. Your breakthrough comes at month's end, until then, watch and wait. You're heading for the deep water, no doubt about that, but you might also come up with the necessary pearl, just when you least expect it.

As the month begins you find yourself in a world apart, focusing only minimally with practical concerns like keeping your socks mended and simultaneously operating out of a deeper truth. Your dream life might feel more real than your outer one right now. The vast and yeasty unconscious part of you, like the underwater mass of a floating iceberg, occupies more of your psyche than you are normally willing to credit with your daytime awareness. At the time of the Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon of September 7th, you are brought even more fully into dreamtime. Your communication with others is a changing landscape right now, with subtle meanings waiting to be uncovered. This period may also bring surprises. You are feeling your way forward into a more complete notion of where you are headed in your life, an intuitive hit on what of all the reasons and rationales you employ might be the one that actually brought you to this point. The Last Quarter Moon of Thursday, September 14th represents a certain degree of tension in the mix of energies. This moment the cycle traditionally represents a crisis in awareness for the process that you are currently engaged in, a time when you must decide what pieces of your puzzle actually fit and make sense to pursue, and which to discard. It pays you to look carefully at what comes up and to listen to the words you hear for an undercurrent of deeper truth. The Solar Eclipse New Moon a week later, on the 22nd, represents a last chance for certain realizations to take hold. You are hovering on the brink between worlds at this time, trying to make sense of the information that you receive from the hidden layers of your psyche, like remembering a dream. The relevance for your daily life is quite real, and supports a more integrated approach between inner awareness and your outer form.

Scorpio Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
Fixed Water. Your ruling planets are Mars and Pluto.

This is your time to truly shine, Scorpio. You are reaching for a peak of success right now and it shows. Plans for the future that you make at this time are scary likely to come into fruition in the weeks and months ahead. There may be some surprises in the mix of energies swirling around your door, some unexpected ways of showing up in the world that will startle you, and your friends as well, into new forms of seeing and being. It is nothing you can't handle, given your cheerful participation these days in the grander scheme of things.

As the month begins, you are in a rather good place mentally and emotionally, although you may feel shadows lurking in the arena of your monetary and other forms of security. You are optimistically exploring your chances for powerful achievement right now, which also has a decidedly mystical tone to it. The first few weeks of this month are also the best time for you all year to vision new possibilities for yourself. If you really put your heart into it, you are likely to eventually get what you ask for, so choose wisely. It may be difficult to consciously articulate your desires at this time, as there are underground streams that feed your actions to an unusual degree. You are also most definitely looking beneath the surface of your financial and other resources at your disposal, and of the values surrounding the idea of the material as it plays out in your life, looking for a doorway into a future that makes more sense from the viewpoint of your highest intention for yourself. The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse taking place on Thursday, September 7th, highlights these concerns and issues, and also makes evident the powerful nature of your visionary process these days. You are likely to see your world in a new light as a result of this moment of realization, as perhaps many around you will also. Now is the time, as the poet says, to take what you have gathered from coincidence over the past two weeks, leading up to the epiphany of this Full Moon Eclipse, and run with it. You may be entering into unknown territory but it's a risk-reward situation and you will never find out what awaits you without making the transition and crossing the big water. In the days following the Full Moon, you enter into a dreamy and spiritual space of time, when you are simultaneously exploring the inside of your eyelids as well as the outer world that surrounds you. The Last Quarter Moon of the 14th marks a powerful turning point in your awareness. With the New Moon and Solar Eclipse of the following weekend, beginning Friday morning, September 22nd, you are crossing the threshold of a new world of your own making, entering dreamtime. What you see all around you isn't quite real and yet it is also very much so, as you make the attempt to fuse these two separate viewpoints into one.

Sagittarius Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
Mutable Fire. Your ruling planet is Jupiter.

Interior shifts accompany and even overshadow outer achievement for you these days, Sagittarius. Your public statement is your watchword right now all right, almost the sine qua non of your existence. But other matters of a deeper nature require your attention also, as intimations from vast and yeasty inner realms lead you to what is ultimately a more solid philosophical foundation. Mystical madness enters by its own back door, and you do well to pay attention when it does. Integration is the key to a successful internal marriage of sense and possibility.

As the month begins, you are riding the wave of business and career-orientated energy from the New Moon at the end of August, and feeling a core-level union with the psychological roots of your being at the very same time. It's a stretch, like yoga, and like yoga if you handle it right it will leave you feeling more whole, and more deeply connected to the universe around you. You are also in a very eclectic mood regarding your home front these days, preferring to go rather than to stay very nearly all of the time, and earning your reputation as the bachelor of the Zodiac even if you are in a committed relationship right now. With the Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon of Thursday, September 7th, you are feeling these issues even more strongly. Your freedom is calling you, big time, at this juncture, and you feel also the stretch between escape and responsibility. Philosophically serious at this time, you nonetheless have the urge to abandon ship and play in the rolling ocean. The Last Quarter Moon of Thursday, September 14th, is another time when these issues may come to a head, as you face the devil in the details of making your vision concretely available to yourself and others. You may also have to own up to places inside yourself where internal wish fulfillment clashes with hard-nosed thinking. The New Moon Solar Eclipse that follows a week later represents a fresh start in making sounder plans that fit in with all the various facets of your vision. A few days later, when the Moon enters your sign on the 27th, you'll likely feel more comfortable inside your skin and able to adapt yourself to changing circumstances. The ideal vision of the paradise you could be living in must somehow be reconciled with the actual burdens of existence, and that is surely the trick. If every once and a while we get a glimpse of the joy of merger, it can be enough.

Capricorn Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
Cardinal Earth. Your ruling planet is Saturn.

Your transformation is not complete, Capricorn, there are still many miles to go. Resting on a plateau of meaning doesn't last for as long as you might have wished for. Strands of information no less than of DNA both inform and structure your world, and that world is shifting this month, very rapidly at times. New ideas come into view from mystical sources somewhere beyond your conscious mind and everything changes in an instant. It will be all right in the end. An underground band of angels is coming to your rescue; only first off, you need to be the one that acts to summon them.

As the month begins, you are coming slowly to a new way of seeing the world around you. This is a deeply transformative period of time for you, which may be more evident after it has passed than during. You may start out feeling somewhat insecure and perhaps uncomfortable in your connection to your financial and other resources while remaining content overall. There is a mismatch between the ideal and the real in this and other areas of your life, and you are trying to balance these out, but perhaps without much success. The Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon of Thursday, September 7th, is a daunting and exciting time for you, when you will suddenly find yourself getting new plans together from the standpoint of an optimistic attitude and a startling new set of information. You are getting an intuitive hit that there is something going on inside you, a stirring in the deeper layers of your unconscious that needs to be recognized, and you may spend the next few weeks and months figuring out more of what exactly that is. Meantime yu might as well relax and enjoy the ride. The Last Quarter Moon a week later, taking place on Thursday, September 14th, is a time of increased awareness of your situation, without necessarily being able to do anything about it just yet. A degree of tension is possible at this juncture, as you remain tied to the cross of the real world while still needing to make significant changes in the way that you operate. The New Moon of the following week, coming along on Friday, September 22nd, is another eclipse and definitely represents a breakthrough where you might begin to take action as you continue to explore an entirely new perspective on the world at large. You are beginning to settle into a very different public stance, based on new lenses to your vision, and the shock of adjustment is balanced by the excitement of getting unstuck.

Aquarius Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
Fixed Air. Your ruling planets are Uranus and Saturn.

The prow of your ship is turning, Aquarius, and not toward shore. You are using that inventive mind of yours for the solution of your own rather than someone else's future for a change. Especially at the time of the Lunar Eclipse on the 7th in your resources sector, you are changing deeply at the core, breathing your way into an entirely different posture, stretching for a new sense of security no longer based on the whims of the marketplace or even the opinions of others. That can have its challenging moments all right, but its own unique feeling of exhilaration also. If you pause to look, you might catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror, reaching out across the water to a new synthesis.

As the month begins, you are feeling the contrast between partnership issues versus those of your own unfolding. You find yourself operating out of a rosy-colored optimistic space right now, and challenging reality to measure up to your high ideals. You are transforming at the core of your being, and in the way that you see your connection to the world around you. While you may be happily pursuing career goals at the moment, the underlying question remains of why rather than how you are doing what you're doing. The Lunar Eclipse Full Moon that comes in the first week of the month, on Thursday, September 7th, brings these thoughts to the tipping point. You are fully invested at this time in sharing yourself with others and in figuring out how to maintain your sense of self in the process, and exploring new forms of intimacy based on your own metamorphosis. Your future plans may also be in transition at this time, and also your connection with the social matrix that surrounds you, including friends and group affiliations. The Last Quarter Moon of Thursday, September 14th, represents a period of challenging realizations and further change. You are becoming ever more keenly aware of how and when you give your authority away to others. You are also alert at this time to your various roles as a social being and as an intimate partner as well as an individual. How you fit yourself into the gears of collective participation depends on how you see yourself, and on maintaining your balance so that you don't get lost in the shuffle. When the New Moon and Solar Eclipse comes along a week later, on Friday, September 22nd, a breakthrough is possible in terms of ideas rather than activities.

Pisces Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
Mutable Water. Your ruling planets are Neptune and Jupiter.

You are entirely involved in partnership with others right now, Pisces, but not really. This is a season of adventures in intimacy for you, beginning in the final week of the previous month. Although you are fully wrapped up with caring for significant others in your life at this time, you are even more deeply concerned with the dark hidden places within your soul, and with finding your own transformation in the mix of energies. Perhaps there is a way that hitherto unknown parts of yourself come to light only when the lamp of relationship shines upon them. The marriage of true minds strengthens both.

As the month begins, you are exploring your connection with significant partners in your life, but also feeling strongly your own unique identity. You are in the midst of far-reaching changes, reinventing your persona. Your perspective is shifting, especially at the time of the Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon that takes place on Thursday, September 7th. The first week of this month is a vital period of time for you, when many factors concerning your situation could alter. You are more invested than ever in relationship but also determined not to lose yourself in giving too much. It's a delicate balance that must be struck. Service to others around you is a higher purpose, and chimes with your own deeper longing for divine connection, but you also powerfully feel your own energy and its own unique flavor at this time. After the Full Moon your life may begin to settle into a different pattern. The Last Quarter Moon of Thursday, September 14th, represents a point of tension in the progress of these concerns, when you perhaps must make some difficult decisions on which parts of yourself you need to nurture, and regarding the perspective of your ultimate direction. These tumultuous two weeks lead up to another eclipse on Friday the 22nd, a time when you will be on the brink of genuine change and when your relationship dynamic that you have with significant partners in your life may also alter. It's a very special period of time for you right now, extending back many months and even years, as you have been learning more and more to pursue your own agenda in the mix of cooperative endeavors. On the rowing crew of your daily existence you are still very much a team player, but you do need to pay careful attention to the attitude of your own oar in the water.
