Mercury Retrograde: Turning Mishaps into Magic

It's that time again - yes, it's Mercury Retrograde.  This astrological phenomenon happens three times a year for roughly three weeks, and has become notorious for miscommunications, technical difficulties, accidents, mishaps, and mistakes of all sorts.  Yet there is also great opportunity to work with these energies in a way that has profound, beneficial impact.  Mercury rules communications and intellectual realms, so that the period when retrograde is symbolic of a turning inward, and a time when it is important to be more conscientious of our discourse with others, and hold space in our awareness  for self-reflection, re-evaluation, and patience. We like to say Mercury Retrograde is a good time for anything beginning with "re;" re-communicate, reconsider, recalibrate, re-organize, restructure, and last but not least, RELAX!
Some things you can do to help prevent or iron out the bumps in the road: take extra time for self-care (if you are well-rested and taken care of, you are more likely to be present); double check your work, be extra thoughtful in how you word things; make extra time for traveling, and create back up plans for if something goes awry. If you haven't already - it might be a good idea to back up your computer and data!   Mercury Retrograde is also a good time to clean out your home of unnecessary things, edit and fine tune projects, and if there's anything in your relationship realm that needs extra TLC or to be 'cleaned up' this particular period is a good time for that, too.  It is generally not a good time to make big new purchases, start new projects, sign big contracts, make long lasting deals, or make big life-changing decisions.

Here are the details:

As Mercury will be travelling through the sign of Libra, some main themes will be around creating harmony, relationships, boundaries between self and other, and finding balance and fairness where anything has fallen out of order.

Important Dates:

September 17th: Mercury Stations Retrograde AND Saturn moves into Sagittarius -
Saturn is also a heightened influence in the sky for the entire Mercury Retrograde Period, which indicates themes of limitation, obstacles, and higher lessons of the soul. (See full article on that, here.)  Add the approach of Autumn time (in the Northern hemisphere) to the equation and this creates a triple threat influence signaling for a big pause to slow down, turn inward and take some time to rest, digest and integrate all that arose in these massively transformative recent months.

September 24th: Mercury Squares Pluto, while Pluto stations direct - Energies incline towards plumbing the depths of your inner world, psychology, and relationships.  The seeker of truth and transformation comes alive; you may see with piercing clarity into the normally hidden places within yourself.

September 27th: Lunar Eclipse Full Harvest Moon in Aries with Mercury in Opposition to Moon and Conjunct the Sun - A very powerful day in the cycle of the year, that will ripple out into six months or so from now.  The theme of self and other is most prominent, and in ways that may be intense and challenging to be with.  Questions arise around identity as an individual versus who you are in relationship to another, and where is the boundary between where one person stops and another begins.  Emotions may be quite volatile on this day, with a tendency to oscillate between polarities.  The opportunity is to find ways to bridge gaps in awareness, bringing gentle love and kindness to any places in yourself or another that are suffering.

September 30th:  Mercury conjunct the Sun -  A peak timing of all the Mercury Retrograde factors. You might find you can boost your vitality and vigor supplied to realms of intellect and communication, which could be just the fuel needed to really be with yourself. The deeply self reflective themes that are now arising may be shining a light into places that are normally shrouded in shadow and darkness that are difficult to be with emotionally.  This can be confronting and uncomfortable, yet with the Sun there is also renewed energy to have courage and vitality to contend with all that arises.
