The eclipses of August illuminate your sector of foreign travel, education, and higher mind, so that new worldviews are swimming into your ken all through the month of August, while Jupiter, your ruler, is highlighted in your house of group dynamics, friendships and goals. You are quite active socially this month, and there is also a point to it in terms of finding your way forward in a manner that is consistent with your evolving values. Your commitment has been growing to focus on only those issues that emanate from your own core personality, including both conscious and unconscious factors. Once you discover what deeply motivates you beyond all else, a revolution takes place from within. There is no turning back. Your viewpoint on the world around you and your activities within it are forever changed.

Did you know that Ancient astrologers traditionally associated the Sun with the ninth house' The ninth house was called the “joy of the Sun,” and it was associated with philosophy, wisdom, pilgrimages to holy places or foreign lands, religion, law, and even astrology itself. The reason for this association is due to the fact that the Sun naturally illuminates the world, and so its light has long been associated with the inner light of knowledge, the clarity of truth as opposed to the darkness of ignorance, and the path of illumination within the material world, which is thought of as dead matter without the illuminating light of consciousness. You might be asking why you’re getting a history lesson on the ninth house at this point, but there’s a good reason for it. This month you have two eclipses engaging your ninth house.
The first eclipse of this month is a lunar eclipse (lunar eclipses are always at Full Moons), which is taking place as the Sun and Moon oppose each other in Leo and Aquarius in your ninth and third houses. This eclipse takes place on August 7th. The second eclipse of the month is a solar eclipse (solar eclipses are always at New Moons), which is taking place as the Sun and Moon conjoin one another in Leo in your ninth house.
Lunar eclipses bring culminations, endings, resolution, or closure. With this eclipse engaging the Sun and Moon in the ninth and third houses, the axis of mind, communication, thoughts, and higher beliefs is being highlighted this month. The third house highlights the mind, our communication patterns, and our own voice in the world, whereas the ninth house highlights higher beliefs, religious doctrines or teachings, and the search for transcendent meaning or truth. This month’s lunar eclipse may therefore bring to a culmination or close some mode of thinking, or a very personal set of beliefs that you have carried for quite some time. Third house eclipses may also pertain to periods of completion related to writing, teaching, learning or communicating something. Perhaps you’re finishing a course or you’re changing your personal philosophy this month or maybe you’re reaching a place of completion about a creative project, perhaps something that involves sharing your own voice or thoughts with others. Whatever is happening, lunar eclipses in the third house can deeply effect our mindset, our everyday communication with the world, and our most personal or original and independent beliefs.
On August 21st, the solar Eclipse in Leo takes place in your ninth house, the joy of the Sun, and this is truly the main event. Solar eclipses bring powerful new beginnings, opportunities, or events into our lives. A solar eclipse in your ninth house means that you are being drawn into a whole new world of higher study, religious practice, foreign travel or pilgrimage, or philosophy. For example, you could find yourself enrolling to study something new, considering a new religion or spiritual tradition, planning to travel abroad, or deepening your already existing studies or practices. If you work in a ninth house setting, then you could find that there are new opportunities arising, for example if you are a teacher, scholar, lawyer, or if you work abroad or your work involves foreign places, then you may see brand new opportunities arising within your work place. The most important thing to remember is that you were born to naturally enjoy expanding your horizons, both inner and outer, and a ninth house solar eclipse this month promises that soon you’ll be off onto something new and exciting. With a preceding lunar eclipse in your third house, you may also find that your entire mindset is changing right now, as you simultaneously open yourself to some higher truth or nobler calling. To open ourselves to something higher we often have to sacrifice something of our own independent mindedness, but if anyone can find the appeal in higher truth, it’s you Sagittarius. Good luck!
