Capricorn Horoscope for January 2023

This is another potent month for you, Capricorn, with a lineup of planets in your sign including Mercury in retrograde. The season has your sense of identity front and center, stemming from the timing of the Capricorn Solstice and subsequent New Moon. The Mercury Retrograde period that begins the month has you looking for ways to reflect upon who you are. You are geared to review, revise, and reverse any dysfunctional behaviors that you can detect. The Cancer Full Moon of January 6th brings important others into this picture, as one more set of mirrors for you to ponder. All though the month, you are meditating on who you are and where you are going, and your study of your inner depths is of help along the way to the answers that you seek. It is difficult to undertake perhaps, and yet you benefit when you can more fully acknowledge all that you hold inside, and in particular your principles and values, that in the long run count the most. You win when you can come to the decision to act only from the moral bedrock of your most authentic self.

January is here and you are blessed with the Sun revitalizing your sign from the timing of the potent Capricorn Solstice and subsequent Christmastime New Moon in your sign. The beginning of the month emphasizes your well-being, your personal needs, and your desires. It should be easier to know what you want this month and strategize for the path ahead. As usual, you probably have a lot on your plate and January could continue to highlight technical and logistical issues that need to be adjusted. Home and family concerns, and your psychological roots, are also featured.

Mercury, currently moving retrograde in Capricorn, presages a bit of difficulty with the details, although this period of time is terrific for looking within and attempting to connect to the deeper picture. You can also review and revise your strategies and assess what is no longer working for you. You could find yourself contemplating your desires, your need for autonomy, and what you want from your relationships.

Venus enters Aquarius on the 2nd, emphasizing resources and expenses. For the next three weeks, your material world may be of greater importance and you could be attracted to the finer things in life.

From the 2nd through the 5th, Venus forms a sextile with Jupiter in Aries, newly transiting in your domestic sector. You may have the propensity to spend on your home or your loved ones.

On January 6th, the Full Moon culminates in your opposite sign of Cancer or the part of your chart that relates to your key partnerships. This might be an important marker in your month and you may be able to clearly assess the relational dynamics at play in your life. Romance and partnerships could also be featured, and there could be surprises or surprising revelations. With Mercury still retrograde, and featured, things could be misconstrued. Uranus in Taurus lies in a supportive sextile with the Full Moon implying that at this time it could also be easier to find the right measure of autonomy and self-reliance while also benefiting from the support of others.

Mercury currently retrograde in Capricorn conjuncts the Sun in this Full Moon which can highlight a tension between your emotional needs and the rational parts of yourself. Although you may feel that your head and your heart do not want the same thing,

Mercury’s inferior conjunction with the Sun in Capricorn perfects on the early morning of the 7th and may bring an important epiphany or clarification.

Mars turns direct in the sign of Gemini on the 12th after having been retrograde for two and a half months in the part of your chart that relates to health, routines, and logistics. This is good news although Mercury, which rules the sign of Gemini and therefore Mars in Gemini, is still moving retrograde in Capricorn until at least the 18th or allowing for Mercury’s retrograde shadow lasting to beyond the end of January. Logistical issues could therefore continue to be unusually slow to resolve.

The Aquarius New Moon on the 21st signals the beginning of a new cycle in the part of your chart that relates to your personal resources, what you value, and more extensively your sense of self-worth. Venus and Saturn are forming a conjunction in Aquarius at the time of this New Moon which may bring a tendency to see the glass half empty or be more cautious, especially about financial matters. Uranus slowing down to station direct in Taurus on the 22nd could be a reminder that following your passions is challenging; yet this could also be where a real sense of self-agency resides for you. It may take considerable effort to bring a vision into reality but you can think of this New Moon as a solid opportunity to take a step towards a greater sense of autonomy whatever that means for you.

On the evening of the 26th, Venus enters her exalted home of Pisces which brings a helpful and harmonious influence to the communication sector of your chart in the following weeks. Things that might have felt slowed down or blocked throughout January could start to gain momentum as the month begins to come to a close.

From January 28th to the 30th, the Sun in Aquarius forms a grand trine with Mars in your opposite sign of Gemini and the new planet Makemake in Libra, in your career sector. This is a rather remarkable configuration, especially as it is accompanied by Mercury in trine with Uranus in Taurus emphasizing your creativity. You might take a moment to reflect on the alignment between your values and your work in the world, feeling into a sense of life mission moving forward.
