Friday afternoon’s late Sagittarius New Moon, taking place at 5:43 PM PST and later evening for the east coast and Europe, and at 28° of the sign, features – yet again – a potent cocktail of outer planet energies involving all three of the biggest movers and shakers, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Trickster Uranus, at 28° of Gemini, is highlighted by a partile inconjunct (quincunx) aspect from the Sun and Moon, while nebulous and spiritual Neptune, at 29° Pisces lies in a very close square to the lunation itself. The placement of Pluto, at 2° of Aquarius, does not participate in a typical longitudinal aspect with the Sun and Moon, and is yet instead in very close parallel to the Sun, at nearly its maximum declination, namely negative 23° 17’ for Pluto, and negative 23° 25’ for the Sun. The Moon, in contrast, is officially “out of bounds,” or OOB, its declination being -28° 13’. This actually makes this New Moon especially unpredictable. Its important to recognize as well that the close parallel alignment between Sun and Pluto brings the Lord of Death, Rebirth, and Transformation into another quite potent presence, highlighting the potential for power struggles and for the recognition of similar deep psychological effects from below the surface layers of our psyches. These indications will continue for the next thirty days of this unfolding lunation cycle, to just beyond the first two weeks of January.
Uranus being so closely aspected in this New Moon additionally reflects his potential for sudden epiphanies and departures, unplanned events of surprising influence amidst changing perspectives, as well as unexpected revelations. These nuances could take place wherever Taurus lands in your chart and also affects the Gemini sector as well – being quite close to the 0° point of this mentally oriented Air sign. It can be good therefore in this December and early January timing to stay as open as possible to all sorts of intuitional information that can arrive to you in novel and unexpected ways.
Another significant factor in this New Moon is the presence of Jupiter, in square to Eris in Aries, plus still in his ongoing trine to Saturn and in close aspect as well to Venus, the other benefic planetary archetype. Prominent Jupiter, the ruler of this New Moon, brings up positivity and hope for a less conflictive future, as that can be visualized, and as that can become actual.
As far as prominent Neptune, there we must also consider his four-degree conjunction with Saturn. Both these planets being now in direct motion implies that they will be in increasing combination as they head back into the Aries sign, their conjunction becoming exact in early February. Saturn affects Neptune by bringing into concrete manifestation the mystical reality that this watery outer planet represents, a reality entirely beyond the physical plane. In another way of looking at this powerful combining of stellar influences, the effect of Neptune on Saturn would be to spiritualize our understanding of everything that is happening here in the physical. One other keyword here, which Rick Tarnas has written about in discussing Saturn—Neptune, is “deception unmasked.” We could continue to see the ongoing struggle to determine the truth of the matter in varying contexts. It is also important to recognize that the potential for ideological polarization is now greater than ever, with each side in their own information silo, with the point of view of the other completely unavailable to their eyes. This is one tragedy of our times which is likely to become worse rather than better at least over the opening months of the 2026 year.
Another potent factor in this quite intense New Moon is the elevated presence of Chiron, the Wounded Healer, conjunct Eris and in partile square with retrograde Jupiter, as well as being trined by Venus in this New Moon configuration. This is an extremely highlighted presence of Chiron, indicating the angst that many of us feel at the state of the world, and of the structures of power therein, and affecting all of us in our own personal lives as well. In one way, the sage advice is to recognize that “this, too, will change;” that the only thing that is certain in life is variation, so that keeping calm and awaiting developments is one answer. Of course, we are also involved in what is going on in the world around us and vote in each instant by our attitude, standing up for what we deeply believe as we can come to that. This is another important lesson for these fractious times, that both of these reactions are simultaneously valid.
Incidentally, the above analysis for the December 19th New Moon equally applies to the Capricorn Solstice of December 21st, 7:30 am PST; all these outer planet alignments still occur in this significant solstice configuration, a defining moment for the entire year ahead.
All in all, these times require of us the utmost sincere reaction and presence. While we indeed benefit enormously from staying calm in the face of trouble – whether on the collective front or in personal relations and disputes – we also must be sure to take our stand where that is required. If we can manage to stay calm and yet firm, we will be able to be satisfied in all ways, although this is of course far easier said than done. In any case we do have this chance to rise above, now in the remaining days of December and on into the new year. Best of luck with that and Blessed be!
