A Full Moon Time of Unfolding Destiny

Tuesday's Full Moon in Gemini comes as the culmination of the cycle that began two weeks prior at very nearly the beginning of the month. With the Moon in the sign of curiosity and intellectual potential and with Mercury close to the Sun in the natural ninth sector of higher learning, we have an opportunity to take home with us now a non-material reward from the efforts of our recent days, weeks and even years, in a form of transcendent wisdom that will last us longer than any of the trinkets encountered in the current holiday season. True wisdom, according to seminal 20th century psychologist James Hillman, consists not alone in the accumulation of the years but more primarily in the storing up of the initiations that we have gone through and successfully surmounted, and the lessons that we have thereby learned.

This is a good time for learning on planet earth. The outer planet configurations, most notably the Uranus-Pluto square and their aspects to Chiron, the Wounded Healer, make for a bracing experience of confrontation with our own shadowy inner world, the place from which the road map for our own unique future actually begins. Uranus and the new outer planet, Eris, both are in close aspect to Chiron now. Since Uranus is standing dead still in the sky, turning to direct motion just as this Full Moon shines forth, there are surprises in store for all of us during this mid-month time, and surprising enlightenment as well, as we are available to tune in. The secret benefit of understanding ourselves at such deep levels is not that we suffer in that act but that from acceptance of suffering we grow in character and in strength, turning one more spiral in the pathway toward the wise elder that we have the capacity for becoming.

With Pluto in the mix, quite strongly, over the course of this final two-week cycle of the Sagittarius lunation, we are being asked to let go of what no longer serves us. And with Chiron so prominent, we are coming into greater recognition of where we have in the past suffered emotional wounding and encapsulated the trauma in places inside us that we seldom visit. We have the opportunity now to be gentle with ourselves in coming out of the painful past into a more graceful present; by refusing to stay rigid and unbending in judgment against self or others, we come to a place of greater flexibility and acceptance. By loving ourselves at these deeper levels of the psyche we come to love others without reservation and to reclaim that legacy of internal freedom that we started from as little children, and to which we might one day fully return.

The Sabian symbols for this Full Moon are interesting and inspiring; for the Sun in the 26th degree of Sagittarius we have "A standard-bearer," which symbolically represents, in the words of Marc Edmond Jones "spiritual exaltation through dramatic or vital service to all," and we note that such service can be as simple as granting your own self the pardon that it undoubtedly deserves, for each such act frees up the psychic space in your vicinity and inside others around you as well.

For the Moon in the same degree of late Gemini we find "Winter frost in the woods" signaling a change of season, as is fully appropriate for this time of year. The seasons of your life flow together but also mark the life changes that you are yet going through. These can seem dull and ordinary when seen through the half-closed eyes of habitual conditioning; and yet, when you take a closer look, full of sparkling presence.
