A Startling First Quarter Moon

Saturday's First Quarter Moon in Gemini is interesting for several reasons. One is that the Moon, in Mercury's sign of Gemini, makes an aspect to Mercury, which, still relatively introspective and recovering from the recent retrograde, is also almost exactly square to Saturn. We have therefore a curious and a thoughtful time of it right now, as we struggle to understand our own psyches, and our place in a rapidly changing universe, transforming along the lines of both inner and outer dimensions. Another powerful factor in this Quarter Moon timing is the close aspect made by the Sun to Chiron, the Wounded Healer, which was exact a few days prior. Thus, as we look inside, we might find evidence of dysfunctional patternings, the residue of ancient trauma, dark areas of the psyche that are symbolized by this recently discovered planetoid.

We have arrived indeed at a prime time for revelations and for the sudden surfacing of strange new insights, coupled with many brilliant ideas of how to make things better for ourselves and our world. This is especially so because, all month long, we have a powerful square between Jupiter, having just stationed to direct motion in Cancer, and Uranus in Aries. Their combination signals an opening for powerful intuitional information to enter, and the long-lasting and close nature of this particular configuration ensures that the effects will be far more meaningful. As Jupiter is starting up to begin its forward motion, it maintains exactly the speed in the sky as does the normally slower-paced outer planet, so that they remain within about a degree of exact for the entire remainder of the month, and into mid-April. We can imagine all kinds of fallout from these next two months, including, in the midst of difficulty, wild spiritual positivity, unusually strong intuitional capabilities and a dramatic increase in synchronicity. There will undoubtedly be surprises, and surprising enlightenment.

The dance of these important planetary archetypes also impacts the forming Uranus-Pluto combination, coming up next month for the next exact pass of its storied square alignment. Just as Jupiter reaches the same point of Cancer as does Uranus in Aries, almost to the minute, lo and behold so does Pluto in Capricorn. They will all arrive at 13 ½ degrees of their respective signs on April 20th, Easter Sunday, and the day after, with Mars opposite Uranus in Libra, only a degree off, at 14 ½ degrees. This is the cardinal grand cross that astrologers have been talking about for April. Next month's configuration is highly significant for this society as well, because of the Sun degree in the U.S. chart for July 4th, 1776, which is, wait for it, 13 1/3 degrees of Cancer! The Sun in the U.S. chart is therefore in close dynamic aspect to Uranus and to Pluto, with Jupiter and Mars involved, so that this April 20th cardinal grand cross has huge potential for significant events and realizations looming on the specifically American horizon.

This month of March might therefore be seen as a prelude to the more significant month to come, when the transformational pressure will be brought to bear upon each one of us, to make necessary changes in our approach, or to continue to suffer the consequences of inaction. And the same could be said for the culture that surrounds us, which must transform utterly, in order to reach to end of this tumultuous decade.

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun's position in this Quarter Moon configuration speaks to the cultural and individual situation that we all share. It is "A gigantic tent." Marc Edmond Jones has the keyword APPORTIONMENT and states that the symbol represents "a genius for organizing divergent capabilities in a common cause." As one of the signers of the 1776 Declaration, Ben Franklin said it so well, nearly 240 years ago, we must all learn to hang together now, or else we will surely hang separately.
