July is shaping up to be another month of thrills and spills and everything in between, including inner ideation, stop and go accomplishment, and mystical context, as well as plenty of transformational pressure to continue adjusting behaviors that are not really working, which goes for our individual lives, and as well for the life of the collective that surrounds us. This analysis is due to factors stemming from the consequential Cancer New Moon of the last full week of June, which governs the thirty-day Cancer lunation cycle lasting into the first three weeks of the current month, and also from astrological events that transpire along the way to the month’s second half, such aa the dramatic entrance of Uranus into Gemini, an Air sign that Uranus is comfortable in, on July 7th – there to trine transformational Pluto in Aquarius, with Saturn conjunct Neptune in early Aries at the approximate midpoint. Also to be considered is the largely introspective retrograde of Mercury through early Leo, beginning on the 17th and able to be felt as the retrograde is starting up at some point a week or two before that date. All in all, this is another doozy of a month, and the further amazing news is that the final week of July, heading into a volatile August, is potentially even more so.
The configuration of the recent Cancer New Moon features outer planet combinations with Sun, Moon, and Mars, as indicated above. With all the inconjunct (or quincunx) aspects involved, there are two yod patterns, also known as the “Finger of God,” that are formed, with a focus on Pluto, for one, and also Mars. This is a passionate set of featured planets, so that emotions could run high, making it a good idea to take a step backward at crucial moments, or mentally count to ten before blurting out words that are difficult to retrieve. In the case where you do utter something that you feel in the next moment to be unfortunate, there is always also the attempt to repair, as that can be managed. Also featured in this dynamic New Moon are Saturn and Neptune, drawing ever closer over the course of this month, so that their essentially antithetical archetypes are potentially acting out as well. This archetypal combination speaks to polarity within our current social scene – and also within each of us as individuals – that can be difficult to resolve, one side not able at all to see the other’s point of view. It can also be confusing, with statements made that must be fact-checked. Noted 21st century astrologer Rick Tarnas mentions that one keyword for this combination might be “deception unmasked.”
The Capricorn Full Moon taking place on July 10th does not have the star power of this earlier New Moon, and yet it does feature Uranus newly moved into Gemini, where it will occupy this mental sign for the next four months, until the 7th of November. This placement of Uranus implies an even stronger combination of outer planets in the remainder of July and also August. Uranus is closely trine to Pluto in Aquarius, moving retrograde to eventually late summer be at 1° of Aquarius, with Saturn and Neptune at 1° and 2° of Aries, sextile to both ends. With this taking place in active or masculine signs, this is a powerful indication of the strongly transformational times that we are living through, as individuals and in our social setting. And yet, as they say, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” We must be willing and prepared to take a stand for our most cherished beliefs.
The Last Quarter Moon of the 17th makes for another key juncture in this volatile July month, with the Moon square to the Cancer Sun, and precisely conjunct Eris at 25° of Aries, with both little more than a degree away from Chiron, the Wounded Healer. This configuration thus reinforces the idea of taking a stand for what we most deeply believe, and as well acknowledging the painful places that that stand might have to take us. Saturn and Neptune are inconjunct a well to Haumea, at 1° of Scorpio, Nature planet for obeying inner moral compass and for truth-telling, which is also closely inconjunct Uranus, so that a third and quite precise yod is formed, to Haumea. Plus, a close T-square is formed to Haumea in the upcoming Leo New Moon a week further on. This Pluto- Haumea configuration has coincidentally a similar theme to Saturn-Neptune in that it indicates, despite attempts to prevaricate, the truth coming out.
Mercury also retrogrades on the 17th, at 15° of Leo, and will move backward in Leo until August 11th, recovering for the two weeks following of the post-retrograde shadow period, and fully straightening out by August 24th. This retrograde period in Leo, another quite active sign, implies review, readjustment and rethinking in an introspective mode of refection, and this runs counter to the New Moon energy of July 24th when Leo is activated in a more positive way.
This Leo New Moon of course colors the final week of the July month and sets the stage for August. The same powerful configuration of outer planets from July are in this New Moon quite powerfully activated, with a partile or same-degree opposition from the Sun and Moon to Pluto at 2° of Aquarius, and with Uranus now at 0° of Gemini, with Saturn and Neptune quite close to each other near the 2° mark of Aries. This signals an August month that is even more transformationally potent than July, and presages even a greater set of potential changes than we have previously seen.
These powerful outer planet configurations remind us that we live in perilous times, when our world is in many ways being shaken. With all that is going on, it remains essential that we attempt to more fully understand where it is that we draw our own personal line, in accord with our most sincere principles and values. In this way we can firmly decide where it is that we ourselves can take our stand – ignoring all the pushes and pulls of the consensus and the political forces that surround us. By taking that stand, we remain free, despite everything.
