The late Scorpio New Moon that arrives on Wednesday, November 19th, at nearly 11 pm PT, near or after midnight for points further east and early morning next day for Europe, is a rather amazing lunation, continuing the string of these that we have been seeing in recent months. Astrologers have been mentioning that two of the three major outer planets, namely Uranus and Neptune, are by this point in time retrograding back into their previous signs, backing away from Gemini and Aries. True, yet they are still close to the 0° mark of these masculine signs, as is also the New Moon a couple of degrees back from Sagittarius at 28° 11’ of Scorpio. This New Moon is therefore in close sextile with Pluto at 1° Aquarius; and as well opposed to Uranus at 29° Taurus, with all the surprising revelations and rebel revolutionary behavior that is thus implied. The likelihood of unexpected events, as we have been witnessing all summer, continues into December. The New Moon’s trine with Neptune, at 29° Pisces – near Saturn there – invokes a spiritual element that is also remarkable in the intensity of its vision. The transformational cycle that has been supported by past alignments with Pluto, Lord of Death and Rebirth, still remains. It seems a good bet that the metamorphosis tenor of this wild November, for contexts both individually personal and societally collective, will continue. And this includes the new insights provided by Mercury in retrograde sneaking back into the Scorpio sign, there to meet the Sun and Moon.
In this New Moon configuration as well, Mercury at 28° Scorpio closely aligns with the Sun and Moon, making for a very rare astrological double-event in which Mercury’s Cazimi with the Sun coincides exactly with the timing of the Scorpio New Moon. The Cazimi, within 17’ of orb, a mere quarter of a degree, represents one peak of its overall retrograde period. This short transit of Mercury “in the heart of the Sun,” references a moment of clarity amidst the storm, the eye of the hurricane, and is thus very dramatic, totally coinciding with the New Moon. What has been confusing during previous weeks may become momentarily logical as epiphanies come to us. There is a chance that these could actually outlast the week, given that they are also part of the New Moon configuration.
Saturn still conjuncts Neptune, in their four-degree separation, from 25° to 29° Pisces, midpoint at 27°, a point closely trined by this New Moon, and therefore make for an important planetary alignment that is also still quite active. This combination intimates the ongoing ideological divisions within the collective and that we are also feeling within our own skins. It underscores the mystical within everyday life and as well the illusions that undermine practicality. Another keyword here is “deceptions unmasked.” This continues to be true for the next several months, as Saturn and Neptune eventually return to direct motion and begin to draw even closer, coming to an exact conjunction in February. We might want to be asking ourselves of what our ultimate truth consists, and can we proceed to act upon and take a stand for that in which we most deeply believe. We have an upcoming holiday season that continues the evolutionary pressure on all of us to get our act together.
It is interesting as well as we contemplate this dynamic and consequential New Moon configuration, to consider the new 21st century planet Haumea, which rules profound connection to Nature and to natural law, an internal moral compass present within us all in varying degrees. Haumea, at 3° Scorpio, still aligns with Pluto in square, and is activated in this New Moon by an aspect to Uranus and an exact bi-quintile to the midpoint of Saturn and Neptune at 27° 20’ of Pisces. This combination of Pluto square Haumea is associated with “the truth coming out” in various ways, as we have been seeing at the level of the collective in recent months
There is also a grand trine between Jupiter and Saturn – in their long trine now at 25° of Cancer and Pisces – with Sun, Moon, and retrograde Mercury at 28° Scorpio. This is actually a quite socially conscious indication, presaging intense public interest in politics and the underlying meaning of all that we are witnessing in that regard, especially in the mire of Washington, DC. Additionally, Eris, warrior for soul intention, is closely semi-sextile Saturn and closely square Jupiter, reminding us that we need, now more than ever, to take a stand for what we most deeply believe.
All in all, we are up against it in so many ways, and yet there is that ray of light promised by the somewhat optimistic grand trine energy and the Mercury Cazimi, both part of the New Moon that promises to be active over the following thirty days of its lunation cycle, as the Mercury Retrograde winds down. Let us therefore take hope that things might begin to get better. That will take no fewer than every one of us, acting according to our own inner light, and taking a determined stand for what we want to begin to see manifesting personally, in this crazed country of ours, and in the wider world beyond it. Blessed be!
