This April month comes in riding the coattails of the recent late Pisces New Moon, at 28° of the sign, in near perfect sextile to Trickster Uranus, promising continued surprises, and also of the Aries Equinox that followed two days later, featuring a seven-planet stellium in that sign including Sun and Moon along with Eris and Chiron, still in close conjunction – at 25° Aries – as they also were in the Pisces New Moon. The Sun in the Equinox configuration is conjoined with Neptune, bringing his other-worldly symbolism into greater conscious awareness. Then there is also, as the month gets underway, the Libra Full Moon of the evening of the 1st – which arrives as a culmination of the current Pisces lunation cycle from mid-March and features a slow-moving Jupiter at 15° Cancer in square to Sun and Moon. With such a varied astrological backdrop, there is, on the one hand, pain and upset symbolically stemming from the strong presence of Chiron, the Wounded Healer, conjunct Eris, and on the other, as implied by the potent presences of Jupiter, Eris, Uranus, and Neptune, a fragile and yet basically optimistic vision for the future, in spite of everything.
While other-worldly Neptune in early Aries remains balanced by the practicalities and limitations posed by Saturn, surprising events and novel aspirations are matched by unexpected revelations and the potential for illusion and confusion. Discernment must be applied. Saturn is also in same-degree sextile with Pluto in Aquarius, implying further continuing transformation and the manipulation of reality on the part of politicians. There is stamina in this multi-layered archetypal stew, plus the hopeful intentionality for each one of us on the possibility of going all out for what we each individually conceive as the right path. This is a jolt of courage under fire, together with the lingering fear that our fractured society might not after all be able to get there, as cynical political power-brokers secretly desire. When it comes to denying election results in the case of a free and fair outcome like the one we had in 2020 – in spite of lies to the contrary – the country must come together as one under the banner of law and order.
In all of this, what might count for the most significant conclusion is that, in the final analysis, it is up to us, to each one of us – individually and acting in solidarity with those we can identify as fellow-travelers – to take our own unique stand for what we feel is our innermost truth, independent of consensus thought or early conditioning. We must act on that, and that alone, as we arrive at the fullest understanding that we ourselves are the ones that we have been waiting for.
The outer planets are still teasing us onward with their transformational powers, indicted by strongly placed Pluto, in Aquarius, and in extremely close declinational alignment with prominent Jupiter, by the revelations of Uranus, and by Neptune, featured in the recent Equinox in his widening conjunction with Saturn. The entire combination might be telling us that it is a spiritual, practical, and mystically effective solution that we must seek. In any case we are also aware that the society surrounding us is irrevocably changing, and that we ourselves must ardently change along with it if we are to come out with our sanity intact.
This pile-up of planets in Aries extends to eight planets in all at the April 17th Aries New Moon, counting the new 21st century planet Eris. This archetype of the figure of the Feminine Warrior, represented by Eris, supporting soul intention, is proving to be extremely consequential in Western chart analysis, as we can come to understand our own depths and that whatever is to be found there is fundamental. It is, indeed, what we cannot not do. The amazing thing with the Eris archetype is that when we can reliably come to our deepest and most sincere purpose, and stick with that, we are absolved from feelings of powerlessness or angsty fears for the future of our society, because we know that we have done all we can. This in the pursuit of the best choices that we can arrive at by a concentrated and studied response to the enormous challenges of these fractious times.
There are other powerful outer planet combinations revealed in the mid-month Aries New Moon of the 17th, and one of these is that Mars at 5° of Aries lies in partile or same-degree sectile with Pluto, in Aquarius, which could bring his transformational energy further to the fore, and also tempt us into releasing long-buried anger, or even rage, that we must beware of. The New Moon at 27° Aries is also in close conjunction with Chiron and Eris, which is another indication of our attention directed inward, where inner wounding may remind us of ancient trauma from early childhood that we are still working through, seeking acceptance and acknowledgment for dark places within us that barely see the light of our conscious awareness unless summoned in this way.
Then, too, the subsequent First Quarter Moon of April 23rd is another extreme lunation configuration – with the Moon at 3° of Leo making a T-square, opposed to Pluto in Aquarius, to the Taurus Sun in square to both; thus giving a boost to the transformational propensities of these difficult times. This T-square becomes a grand cross when we take the new nature planet Haumea into account at 3° Scorpio. This signals that, in the melee of our personal evolution, it becomes vital to recognize that the forces of nature, and of natural law within us, count for a lot. We have a responsibility to ourselves, and to our society, to be consciously attempting to sort out the truth, as best we can know it, and to act upon our understanding of how our actions affect everyone else around us, as we evolve.
